The New Year’s Concert of classical music performed by the Vienna Philharmonic that takes place each year in the morning of New Year’s Day in Vienna, Austria, is regarded by many as the most important classical concert worldwide. It is broadcast live around the world to an estimated audience of more than
50 million in 93 countries in 2017. The music always includes pieces from the Strauss family— Johann Strauss I, Johann Strauss II and Josef Strauss. Willi Boskovsky, concertmaster of the orchestra from 1936 until 1979, conducted the Vienna New Year’s concerts from 1955 to 1979. This New Year’s Celebration LP collects Strauss pieces featuring the conductor along with the Vienna Philharmonic that have been staples of the New Year’s Concerts over the years.
