Slow Down Molasses Burnt Black Cars Limited Vinyl LP
Overview:
Saskatoon, Canada’s Slow Down Molasses is a five-piece indie-rock collective described as “the Broken Social Scene of the prairies” by Toronto’s Exclaim! Magazine. Taking cues from the wide-open spaces of their home, they craft expansive, texture-heavy pop songs that break into storm squalls of drone, delay and feedback. For their new record Burnt Black Cars, they have turned to producer and prairies ex-pat Jace Lasek of the Besnard Lakes. The album cover is from a series of photos lead singer Tyson McShane’s father took in Paris in May ’68, where he woke up every day to see artists, philosophers and students clashing with the police just outside his front door. “The record takes some inspiration from May ’68, and from my dad’s stories, but it’s more about the way conflict is an omnipresent backdrop to modern life, and how the normal, human moments still manage to shine through.
