Overview:
On November 18, 1954, by recording ‘I’ve
got a Woman’, Ray Charles was injecting into the nascent Rhythm & Blues a dose of
this unbridled swing, borrowed from the tradition of Spirituals. He laid the
foundations of a new genre; Sam Cooke was going to bring the sweet intonations
and velvety sounds inherited from his Gospel practice. Soul Music was born.
